Site Investigation work underway at St Johns, Hackney

Invasive investigations are underway for the £ 16.5M mixed use development designed by DLA Architects between the Grade 2 Listed St John-at Hackney Church and the Grade 1 Listed St Augustine Tower in Hackney for Thornsett.

The development has been carefully designed to sit between the historic buildings and gardens and is surrounded by mature trees and churchyard walls. St. Augustine’s Tower dates back to the Middle Ages.  A new community hall, nursery, and scout hall as well as a new public courtyard and pedestrian link have been designed to help integrate the Church into the wider setting. The buildings also provide social housing as well as private apartments adding to the wider community.

Designs for the 3 brick and bronze clad buildings gained Planning Consent in March 2015 and construction is anticipated to start in the summer.
