Approach

We draw on our knowledge and experience and are influenced by both the built and the natural environments in developing engineering solutions on projects. Designs evolve and we collaborate with Architect’s and other designers to develop functional and cost effective buildings that can be delivered on budget and on time.

Engineering is an art in the use of materials, form and technology and we see engineering as being about the sustained pursuit in finding better solutions and finding better ways to challenging problems. The spirit of engineering is very similar to that of exploration.

Thoughts and ideas in many cases are borne from simple sketches and we see that drawing and sketching by hand is not just an important first step on projects, but is a fundamental tool and method of communicating over the life of the project.

Things can move very quickly to digital modelling and form finding. At Manhire Associates, whilst we routinely use ‘state of the art’ software for a range of modelling purposes, we still use sketches to help convey our thoughts and ideas.

We are aware of the environment, the importance of specifying materials from sustainable sources and the challenges facing the industry in reducing embodied carbon.

The company operates fully digital information systems where project data is centralized enabling free access and the sharing of knowledge. Delivering projects successfully and exceeding expectations requires good information systems and decisive management as well as good engineering.
