Great Eastern Quays
The re-development of the former Pharmaceuticals warehouse and offices site around the historic Pump House building has been carefully designed by MacCreanor Lavington Architects to reflect the heritage of the docks. The site was formerly a Pharmaceuticals Warehouse and office building and proposals include retaining the working pump house and providing extensive riverfront landscaping enhancing the commercially active dockside.
The Notting Hill Housing development will deliver over 850 apartments, offices, shops and leisure facilities in 3 phases in a remarkable dock and riverside setting.
Manhire Associates were engaged by Galliford Try together with RMA Architects to develop designs for Phase 1 – two apartment buildings and an Energy Centre.
Several site investigations had been undertaken on the brownfield site, and Manhire Associates worked closely with Galliford Try to appraise the quality of the ground to develop foundation and groundworks proposals. A program of supplementary chemical and gas testing was undertaken to better understand the concentrations of chemicals in the ground. The environmental appraisal of the ground and the concrete specification was a key issue as well as the ground gas regime. As a result of this collaborative effort, just a handful of piles required DC-4 grade concrete, with DC-2 concrete specified across the site generally.
Although the buildings are quite simple in form, the design team worked closely to carefully detail the buildings and particularly the intricate brickwork facades.
The reinforced concrete frames have been completed on the first phase of the re-development of Royal Docks in London.
